Frontend & UI

Challenge

Traditional project matching introduced unconscious bias and manual inefficiencies, making it difficult to align students and supervisors purely based on technical merit.

Core Outcome

The final experience centered on a single source of truth for operations, designed to reduce friction across ordering, fulfillment, and stock visibility.

Impact

Eliminated bias through blind reviews and streamlined the approval workflow with a robust 4-vector scoring algorithm and real-time syncing.

Approach

  • Engineered a Blind Review Dashboard where supervisors evaluate proposals without knowing student identities.
  • Implemented a 4-vector scoring heuristic (Research Area, Tech Overlap, Keywords, Workload) for optimized matching.
  • Developed Identity Reveal Logic, disclosing identities only after a formal interest match is confirmed.
  • Designed specialized, role-based interfaces for Students, Supervisors, Module Leaders, and Admins.

Outcomes

  • Successfully deployed a bias-free matching environment for the PUSL2020 module.
  • Enabled instant, real-time synchronization and notifications powered by SignalR WebSockets.
  • Achieved high code quality and reliability through Test Driven Development (TDD).
